Privacy policy

What we collect

Account details; precise location while you use ride and safety features; ride history; payment tokens (never your raw card number); ratings; safety-incident reports; driver verification documents, for drivers only; and support notes about your account.

Location

MatRide uses your precise location in the foreground only — to detect your city, match you with nearby drivers, track an active ride, and, only when you choose it, share your position with trusted contacts or during an emergency alert. MatRide does not collect your location in the background or when the app is closed.

Live-sharing and emergency-sharing links expire automatically and stop updating once ended.

Why we collect it

To match rides, process payments, keep the community safe, and respond to safety incidents.

Who we share it with

Payment processors — Stripe and Paystack, depending on your market — and, only if you trigger an emergency share, your saved trusted contacts and any verified response partner covering your area. We do not sell your data.

Analytics

This website runs no analytics, no advertising pixels, and no third-party trackers. It sets no cookies. The only network requests it makes are for its own pages, fonts and images, all served from this domain.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account from Account → Privacy in the app, or by emailing privacy@matride.com.

If you are in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Act and the NDPR give you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and a right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

If you are in Illinois, the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) applies to biometric identifiers. MatRide does not collect biometric identifiers. Driver verification documents are identity documents, not biometric templates, and are not used for facial recognition.

Needs counsel — Whether driver document verification, as actually implemented, stays outside BIPA’s definition; whether a Nigerian data-protection representative or NDPC registration is required; and whether any cross-border transfer between Nigeria and the United States needs a documented transfer mechanism.

Retention

Most data is kept while your account is active. Payment, refund, tax, fraud and safety-incident records may be kept longer where the law requires it, including after a deletion request.

Changes to this policy

We publish a new version here when this policy changes. Material changes require re-acceptance in the app.
